Mindset Before Motivation

I’ve heard these a thousand times, “how do you stay motivated?” or “I wish I was more motivated” or “I just lost the motivation to continue…” and here is why continuing to think this way will always leave you in the waiting game…

Just STOP, Stop waiting for motivation to make the grand entrance, the real magic shift is your Mindset, it’s true the magic is in the mind, now if I had to bet It’s not the mindset you currently are using and waking up with on the daily, but the healthier version that is ready to make its grand entrance.

Without the right mindset, which is your internal framework and belief system, you’ll continue to sit, just waiting for motivation to move you, this waiting or inactivity holds you back not just from future potential of living your best life, but by not acting you are giving up precious time focusing on the doubt, past failure, fear and self limiting beliefs which will leave you feeling stuck on the platform still waiting for motivation to arrive, pick you up and magically transform your life.

News flash!!! motivation isn’t the catalyst to change it’s a bi-product of taking action, staying consistent to the process that is already in motion.

Motivation isn’t a first responder like we want it to be, instead it sits comfortably out of reach and waits, but sadly the waiting game lingers as we wait for motivation to sweep us up and give that swift kick in the rear we so badly need, but sadly enough nothing happens, the excuses build, the fear grows, the self doubt festers and we linger in the here and now, we watch the promotion walk away, we struggle in our relationships, we don’t make the call or our doctors are talking lifestyle changes or a life of disease, our body aches, our hearts hurt & our anxiety is on full alert and yet nothing is strong enough for motivation to come out of hiding because our mindset is not in the right place, we haven’t decided to take any action to invite or even entice motivation to join the party.

A Rewired Mindset is powerful, it allows you to see the bigger picture while still in the present moment, it allows a healthy realization of I’m here, but that’s where I’m going and this is how I’m getting there motivation or not I’m going now. Having the desire, willingness, commitment & consistency will always win over motivation. 

Mindset shifts must begin obviously in our minds, but this comes with a warning this is a messy place, we’ve been storing things here longer than the trend of storage units in this country has been a thing. Things in here are misused, outdated, dusty, heavy & rotten but wait…I bet you’ll find a rare treasure somewhere in there, no not motivation…I’m willing to bet you’ll find yourself, not the one you think you know, but the one that’s been buried under all the junk that’s been piled on top of your true heartfelt self, your passions, your talents, your hopes and dreams all buried under the weight of stored junk, imposed, implied and accepted over the years.

No one likes the cleaning out process but it’s vital to getting to the key that will eventually unlock our motivation to continue, not start but continue. So let’s get on with it, go ahead open the cabinets and closets in your mind that have stored all the junk, the doubt, the fears and failures, real or imposed it’s your reality, maybe you placed them upon yourself or someone else did, no matter the cause it still requires us to do the work!!! Sorting the truth from lies, sifting through hurts and finding forgiveness, purging what no longer serves us today and most definitely what we no longer need to carry into the future, ego included.

Feeling lighter, maybe…maybe not! When we do this we uncover vulnerabilities, past dreams and hopes that now are looking at us asking us to take action, take a risk, start the work and then and only then does that motivation start to peek it’s head around the corner, it’s awakened by action and it’s the most powerful when you take action that’s creating consistency in your commitments today THAT is what sparks the motivation, it’s your decision to work plus the commitment to the process that brings out the motivation and boy does it feel good. Another warning, it needs the actions and commitment from you to show up first if it’s going to join you tomorrow and many more tomorrows.

Your new mindset allows room for motivation to move in and finally you have what you think you’ve always needed, but this time you appreciate it, you learn to understand and define it differently, and learn to celebrate with is because you did the hard work to get there or else you would still be sitting on the platform flirting, frustrated & eventually furious that motivation didn’t come out to save you.

Instead YOU did the work to save yourself and that’s empowering and should be celebrated!
