Rooted - your underlying support system?

Rooted - what is your underlying support system?

As this year began I was brain dumping my intentions, prayers, goals and dreams in addition to any words that stood out for my Word of the Year.  I haven’t always claimed a Word for the year but when I do it happens to show up in the strangest places in my day to day activities. So maybe you’ve guessed it from the title, but this year the word that stood out from my journaling, brain dumping and prayers was ROOTED. I wanted to be rooted in my life, as a tree relies on its roots to support and anchor it, nurture it and water it but also protect it from soil erosion, maybe it’s the scientist in me but who wouldn’t want to have a solid root system supporting them.

So let’s chat real quick about our support and anchor system as a busy mom, do you feel as if you are barely standing tall most days, swaying from one task to the next? It’s sad to say but it’s actually the feeling the world tells us we should be feeling and just to accept it as our reality. Tired is normal, busy is normal, selfless behaviors are a sign you're a good mom, but I must disagree, we have the choice to stop and to give our roots a chance to grow, a chance to nourish us and do their part in holding us up even in the chaos. Choosing to root your life in a firm foundation begins with what only we feel and not what we see or what the world sees, our roots need to be planted in faith, hope and belief in the power of Jesus Christ, with our roots planted firmly in these things we can then start to fully live the life we were created in the here and now.

Changing the things we can’t see can be difficult. Today I’m giving you permission to take time, even if it’s just 5 minutes to check-in with your root system and see where you need to focus your energy today.

Thought questions:

  1. Are you feeling like the weight of the world is threatening to knock you down?

  2. Are you lacking true stability, a solid foundation to begin each day with positive intentions that do not overwhelm but uplift you daily?

  3. Are you feeling nourished or drained in your daily routine?

Tips to Strengthen your Spiritual Wellness

  1. Seek true nourishment from scriptures, prayer and wise counsel

Isaiah 58:11 is a favorite verse and one I live by daily. I also like Psalm 31:24, 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 to place into your memory or write out for next to your coffee pot.

2. Be accountable to someone that is also learning or continues to root their life in a spiritual foundation.

3. Give yourself permission to take time in this process, it’s a growing process and oftentimes growth can be uncomfortable, but if you are doing these things to better yourself, your environment and your role as mom then it’s completely worth all the growing pains that will come your way.

Lastly, no matter how hard you try, how hard you push through, how hard you hustle you can’t build a healthy life of true Purpose and Wellness if you skip this vital first step, a tree can’t grow and flourish without healthy roots at it’s foundation, just as you can’t grow a true wellness lifestyle without first establishing your own roots in a spiritual foundation, something that you must do for yourself, to feed your soul to believe you were created for more than staying busy and exhausted and only when you start from this foundation can you really begin to extend more of yourself to others, authentically, genuinely and with true purpose to your calling, not just some expectations being met by the world.
